Trent Raynard Returns For Summer 2012

Good news.

Trent Raynard will return to Edith Lank Memorial Christian Camp to provide leadership as the summer director. He brings with him his valuable background as a camper, camp leader and as a school teacher as well as his experience from last summer as our director. We look forward to what the Lord has in store for this summer as we work together to make Christian Camping another way to build up the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Pie Anyone?

It's that time of year again. Time for pie. The cooler temperatures and the celebration of holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas make us crave those treats from the kitchen.

You can help out Edith Lank Camp while satisfying that craving. The annual pie sale is under way and you can get yourself a pie while suporting a great cause.

Out With The Old and In With The New

The new cabin is just about ready to be occupied. It is a great addition to the site and will comfortably house campers and other guests.

It has been moved near the pool for some "value added use".

A Great Evening

We had a great time together last night at the camp. It was a chance to come in out of the cold and "break bread together". The food was delicious and the conversations around the tables warmed our hearts.

P.S. The power to the new bunkhouse has been connected. Progress has been steady and in a few days work will begin on the pine finish inside.

This was the last day for our family mission tour crew and the building is now ready for the roof trusses.

We send out our thanks to the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches family mission tour for all of their support and help with this construction project. We are also grateful for Kevin Munroe and his team that led the basketball camp for the children of our community.

It was a great week and the Lord deserves all the praise.

A Whale of A Trip

Several of the families had a whale of a time aboard the whale watch boat, Mister Matthew, opperated by Island Cruises here on Campobello. Many thanks go out to Captain Mac Green for treating the group to an up close look at one of these fantastic creatures. They went out off the Lighthouse and down into the Head Harbour Passage following a fin back whale. God is a creative Artist and has made all things well. Here's a photo of them in action. Sorry guys but I could not zoom in enough to recognize specific people and I'm not good enough from shore to get one with the boat and the whale in the same shot. This is proof though that you were out there.

Day 2

Here are a couple of shots from Day 2. By the end of work time, the floor joists were all in place and the sub floor was almost finished. It was a bit of a chore to get the center beam straight but a little persuasion goes a long way. I'll keep you updated as things progress. The walls will be started tomorrow.

A great evening at Herring Cove

It was a lovely evening for a BBQ at Herring Cove Provincial Park. There were plenty of things to look at and pick up on the beach. The sun was shining and it was a great evening to be together.

Day One

It was an interesting day with a few thoughtful moments while things were being figured out. The sill plate went on first and then the sill cap. The center floor beam had to be assembled and installed. The nearest level surface was the pool deck and it was a quite a sight to see all of us amateurs carrying a 40 some foot long beam made of three 2X8's nailed together. Brute force and enthusiasm! What a combination. Tomorrow shall be interesting as the work continues to put the floor together.

It's Official

The sod has been turned and the topsoil has been scraped away. It's official, the work has begun on the new bunk house at the camp. Below is a picture of the sod being turned on Camp Sunday, June 27, 2010. It was a beautiful day on the Island so we were able to go out in the field, take a few pictures, turn some sod and ask the Lord to bless this project. I look forward to how the Lord will use this new facility for His ongoing work at Edith Lank. Enjoy the photos. I'll try to post some more as the work progresses.

New Brunswick Children's Foundation provides grant for the construction of a new bunk house

It is exciting to see how the Lord is providing for the camp to build a new facility to accomodate campers. The New Brunswick Children's Foundation has granted the camp $20,000 to help with the construction of this new facility. We want to thank the Foundation for their generous support and we look forward to the way the Lord will use this new building for His glory. A special word of thanks goes out to Mrs. Brenda Allen for all of her help in the process of applying for the grant.

Atlantic Baptist Foundation announces grant for Edith Lank Camp

It is exciting for me to tell you that the Atlantic Baptist Foundation has come along side us to help with a much needed addition to the camp. We have dreamed for awhile about building a winterized bunk house for use not only in the summer but also in the winter. Well, we are that much closer to this becoming a reality with the help of the Foundation. They have graciously provided the camp with a $15,000 grant to help with the construction of the bunk house. We now are waiting on a response to another grant application in hopes that this project might come to pass this summer. Watch for more information later on.

Our thanks goes out to Mr. Doug Beaman, chairman of the Foundation's board and to Mr. Bob Martin one of the Foundation's directors who put in an extra effort to speak on our behalf.

At this blessed Christmas season, again we would like to say a heartfelt Thank you!
Thank you for your love and concern for the ministry. You have been so generous in so many ways, your prayers, your physical help in maintaining the property and last but not least, your financial help.
The Lord always provides and helps us meet our commitments, but without continued support year after year , this ministry would not exist.
This past year was a wonderful year, a great camping season under the direction of Greg Reicker and his dedicated and committed staff. Greg is from Sussex, NB
The Lord has been very gracious in providing finances for Greg to join us again on January 9, 2010. Greg will be working on the expansion of the camp ministry. As we venture into the furtherance of this ministry, pray for us as we wait upon the Lord for his direction.

We are excited about another camping season that it about to begin. Soon those quiet grounds on the shore of the Passamaquoddy will be alive with the sounds of children praising God in His beautiful creation. Our Summer 2009 brochures are now available. If you would like to have one, drop us a line and we will mail you one. Maybe you want one to share with your children, teens or moms that you know so they can have an opportunity to check out what is available to them this summer at Edith Lank. If so, let us know and we will send you one. Our summer director is now on site at the camp and we are glad to have Greg Reicker with us for this season. He is available to speak with your congregation on a Sunday or to your youth or children’s groups that meet during the week. Please get in touch with him at the camp or with me at 752-2104 if you would like to make arrangements to have Greg come to your church.

Perhaps you are concerned about traveling to Campobello because of the new travel restrictions put in place by the United States. During the summer there is a passenger ferry from Deer Island point to Campobello. You can catch the ferry every hour on the half hour. Keep in mind that the first crossing of the day is at 8:30 am and the last trip off Campobello is at 7pm. It is also good to know that only adults are required to have a passport to enter into the United States. If your children have passports, that’s great but the new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative only requires children under 16 to provide proof of Canadian or US citizenship in the form of a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or other type of citizenship document. You can present the original, a photocopy or certified copy of this document. There are more details available at http://www.getyouhome.gov/.

We appreciate your prayers and your financial support as we enter another season. What a great privilege and opportunity it is to reach out with the Good News of Jesus Christ in the special setting that is at Edith Lank. Please join with us in asking the Lord to work in the lives of everyone who comes on the camp site this summer. Edith Lank Camp Welcomes Greg Reiker

The camp committee is pleased to announce that Greg Reiker of Sussex, New Brunswick will be serving this summer as the camp director. At the present he is working hard as a fourth year student at Atlantic Baptist University in Moncton. Greg spent some time at the camp in 2008 as a life guard and he is eager to enter into the camping program for 2009. We wish Greg all of God's best as he prepares to lead this summer at Edith Lank.

A Great Day at Herring Cove

I want to send out my thanks to everyone who participated in the golf day at the Herring Cove golf course. Your support of the camp is appreciated. Thanks as well to the eager BBQers who came to provide a great lunch for the golfers as they rounded hole #9. It was a fantastic day - a goldilocks kind of day - just right: not too hot and not to cold. Also a word of thanks to our many local sponsors who donated all the prizes.

Andy Scott called to serve this summer

The camp committee is pleased to announce that Andy Scott from Saint John has been called to direct Edith Lank Camp this summer. Andy has experience in both Christian camping and youth ministry and has plans to attend Acadia Divinity College in the fall. Andy is married to Sandra and they have an infant daughter. Please pray for this young family as they prepare to come to Campobello on May 31. Continue to pray for the camp committee as they work on calling staff for the summer ministry. This process is vital to the continuation of this outreach so please ask the Lord to raise up His people for this summer.

The day of the big snow storm

Dear Friends:

As I sit and take a peek out the window I am glad for central heating and thermal panes of glass. Outside the wind is blowing and the snow is coming down. The weather forecast is not too promising and it looks like there is no let up in sight. Perhaps this will be a snowy winter. I know my children are hoping that there will be plenty of the white stuff. We all will likely look back on 2007 and ask one another: “Do you remember the year we got that big storm right at the beginning of December?” The snow coming down really gets me in the Christmas mood. I remember as a child there was an advertisement on the radio that spoke of Christmas not as a day but as a season that blew in just around the first of December and disappeared quietly around the beginning of a New Year. In many respects they were right. As we prepare and focus our attention on Jesus we realize that Christmas is not about a day it’s about the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

While we prepare for the big day we are constantly to remind ourselves about the center of attention; Jesus Christ! There is a real sense of excitement and anticipation as we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ yet we can easily miss the Christmas blessing. Jesus was born for the purpose of saving people from their sin. That required not only Christmas night but Good Friday. We fail in our presentation of the message if we only speak of the little baby and neglect to mention the Man on the middle cross. We also fail in our presentation of the message of Christmas if we fail to share the facts of Easter. Jesus became a human so He could take our punishment and become our Savior. It is only through a personal faith in the Baby of Bethlehem who grew to be the Man from Galilee that we can have our sins forgiven and be on our way to heaven. Think of it: The Savior of the world deserves a grand celebration of His birth! So as you celebrate and enjoy the season, keep your eyes on the baby in the manger because He is the One who grew to be our Savior.

I want to personally invite you and your family to our Christmas events. On Saturday, Dec 15 at 7 pm here at the church we will be treated to plenty of Christmas music as Mrs. Bezanson's piano students present a recital of Christmas songs. Sunday Evening, Dec 16 at 6 pm the children will present their Sunday School Christmas concert. The following Sunday, Dec 23 at 6 pm the choir will be presenting the Christmas Cantata Light of The World. On Christmas eve we will have our candlelight Christmas eve service at 7 pm. You won't want to miss any of these events so mark them down on your calendar and plan to attend these celebrations of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Warmest Christmas wishes from my family to yours and may God bless us all with a safe and happy 2008.

Pies and more

It has been a great fall for the camp. While there haven't been any campers on site there has been lot of activity. The camp committee organized a pie sale that featured the creation of 80+ homemade pies for sale to people in the community. There also is a craft and bake sale planned for the Campobello Valu-Foods lobby this Friday from 11 am to 3 pm. If you are in the neighborhood, why not drop by and pick up some "goodies" for Christmas. You may even find that one gift that you have been searching for! All the money raised goes to help children through the ongoing work of Edith Lank Memorial Christian Camp.

I want to thank everyone who has pulled together to make these sales a great event and thanks to all of you out there who supported the camp through donations and purchases.

Coming Right Up

Hello fellow happy campers and enthusiastic camp supporters. The camp committee met last night and decided to host some special events on October 27. There will be a men's breakfast at the camp at 7:00 a.m. that day. Later on at 10:00 a.m there will be a community yard sale. You can rent a table for a $20 donation to the camp. There will also be some leftover items from the camping season for sale . That Saturday will also be the pie and bake sale. You can put an order in for a pie ahead of time (watch for more details on ordering) and your pie will be available for pick up at noon on the 27th. Bake sale items will be available at the camp starting at 10 am until they are all gone.

A great day at the golf course

Saturday was a great day out at the Herring Cove golf course here on Campobello Island. The camp hosted its second ever golf benefit to raise support. 21 enthusiastic golfers came out to brave the fog and drizzle for a great cause. Our thanks goes out to our supporters for helping us raise a little over $800 for the camp. We also send out a big thank you to our friends at Herring Cove Provincial Park and Herring Cove Golf Course who provided the venue for our golf day. Where would we be without the support of our friends.
